TEAM PURSUIT RECORD ATTEMPT
26 February 2010

The team pursuit is often considered the best measure of the depth of a state or country’s cycling talent, which always makes it one of the most hotly contested races when major titles are up for grabs.

At the Australian championships the battle among the elite has often been Victoria versus NSW. But this year South Australia and Western Australia were head and shoulders above the rest.

Victoria needs to send a message to the rest of the country that this year’s performance was a minor blip.

That message could come from four young men who at Revolution 6 will make an attempt on the Australian under-17 team pursuit record.

The team will consist of three Carnegie-Caulfield Cycling Club members Jack Cummings, Thomas Hamilton and Evan Hull, and Blackburn Cycling Club’s Alex Morgan.

But it’s not a true all metropolitan affair as Hamilton and Hull, despite being CCCC members, hail from Ararat.

The record they’ll be aiming to beat was set by the NSW quartet of Jackson Law, Tirian McManus, Joshua Cornish and Thomas Regan last year with a time of 3 minutes 22.859 seconds.

The signs have been good in training but Cummings, Hamilton, Hull and Morgan will need plenty of support in their effort to break the record.
