REVOLUTION MEANS TRACK IS BACK IN OZ
10 October 2007

In 1990, 6000 fans braved the weather to witness Danny Clark win his third Austral Wheelrace at the outdoor velodrome in Northcote.  In the 50’s, full-houses watched and experienced some of the best and closest racing in the world on the wooden track at Olympic Park.

Melbourne is Australia’s home of track cycling and for the past six-years, Vodafone Arena’s 250m Olympic standard track has been the venue. The sport has somewhat plateaued over the past decade, but all that’s about to change… Track is Back with a Revolution set to bring back the big names and the big crowds.

The Revolution concept has successfully transformed track racing in the UK, with sell-out crowds, great entertainment and close racing.  Revolution arrives in Australia at just the right time to make the most of the huge growth in recreational cycling and with an Olympics just around the corner.

Cycling is the new Golf
  • Cycling is the second highest participatory sport in Australia (to swimming) with a bullet! In fact, it is number one with males! Over 1-million bikes have been sold in Australia for each of the past five-years and there is a strong push from government to continue the trend.
  • It is a sport on the rise and a sport being embraced by a more affluent and professional demographic. The average road racer costs around $2500 with most of the better bikes being upwards of $6000 (to as high as $20K!). There are over 9000 bikes riding up and down Beach Rd on a weekend day and, like golf, once you’re bitten by the bike bug, you’re hooked.
  • Like no other sport, cycling offers sponsors the opportunity to connect with a very attractive demographic on a level they are passionate about.
